South Dakota State University Financial Services unit is offering an exciting career opportunity as a Controller within the Accounting department. We are looking for a motivated professional to join us in this vital leadership role. This is a 12 month, full-time, benefit-eligible position, which is supervised by the Assistant Vice President of Financial Services. 

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.  Sponsorship is not available for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position takes a lead role in all aspects of University financial reporting.  The successful candidate will lead and continue to develop an established team of accounting professionals in processing of University financial transactions, preparing timely financial statements, filing sales tax and Unrelated Business Income Tax returns, guiding and updating finance policies, and analyzing financial data.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field completed by first day of employment;
At least five years of accounting work experience;
·         Demonstrated working knowledge of GAAP, and accounting practices;

Demonstrated use of technology in processing and analyzing financial transaction data;
·         Excellent oral and written communication skills;

Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
Ability to work as a collaborating team member.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         CPA or advanced degree in Accounting strongly preferred;

·         Demonstrated experience with GASB based financial reporting;

·         Finance experience in the Higher Education sector;

·         Previous supervisory experience;

·         Demonstrated leadership in developing or implementing process improvements;

SDSU Accounting is a team of eight employees within the Financials Services unit, which also includes the Bursar office, Loans, Student Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, BOR shared AP, BOR shared Payroll, BOR Shared International Employment Services, and Payroll.  The Financial Services team is committed to meeting the business and financial needs of the SDSU community in a pleasant, professional, and efficient manner.
