South Dakota State University (SDSU) Office of Human Resources is currently seeking to hire two collegial and professional Employee Relations Specialists to begin on or after April 22, 2021. These positions are full-time, regular, benefit-eligible positions.

One of the Employee Relations Specialist positions are primarily responsible for preparing and deploying Supervisor and other Human Resources related training to campus, investigating and guiding supervisors through performance issues, discipline processes and grievances. This position also performs a variety of duties to promote employee welfare, such as leadership support, performance management and annual reviews, supervisor support, employee support and other duties as assigned.
The second Employee Relations Specialist position is primarily responsible for investigating and guiding supervisors through performance issues, discipline processes and grievances. This position also promotes employee welfare, such as training and leadership support, performance management and annual reviews, supervisor support, employee support and other duties as assigned.
The successful candidates will work with university leaders to provide guidance and training on employee relations issues as well as helping them to navigate the more complex issues as they arise. These positions will explain and provide advice to employees about university, SDBOR and state rules, regulations, and procedures.
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a closely related field completed by first day of employment;
At least three years of experience in Human Resources/employee support work or related;
Demonstrated ability to use discretion and excellent judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work under multiple deadlines;
Demonstrated ability to influence others and be persuasive when facing resistance;
Demonstrated ability to conduct an investigative interview;
Demonstrated ability to prepare and conduct training;
Strong organizational and analytical skills;
Ability to work effectively with people at varying levels within the University;
Customer service focus;
Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills;
Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire and willingness to travel.
PHR, SPHR, SHRM certification;
· Graduate degree.
