South Dakota State University (SDSU) Instructional Design Services (IDS) is offering an exciting career opportunity as Learning Designer II. We are looking for a creative and innovative professional to join IDS. This is a 12-month, full-time, benefit-eligible position working collaboratively with other team members of IDS in the areas of instructional design, distance education, technology integration, course design and development, learning media integration and development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN

Work with faculty and Instructional Design Services staff to design, create, and implement technology-based resources for teaching and learning such as Desire2Learn, simulations, streaming video, interactive learning media, and multimedia presentations, both for traditional courses and for online education or hybrid delivery. 
Consult with and assist faculty on the selection and implementation of technology teaching tools and resources appropriate to their needs and interests. 
Collaborate with faculty on design and development of online learning environments and on integration of technology into face-to-face instruction. 
Provide support to faculty in integrating applications of technology into instruction through identifying instructional problems, developing delivery strategies using technology as an instructional tool, and evaluating the effectiveness of this type of instructional delivery.

TRAINING

Develop, deliver, and support training for faculty development on the use of instructional technologies. 
Develop documentation materials on teaching strategies or document technical steps on software applications. 
Train, mentor, and coach faculty as required on an individual basis. 

SERVICE & RESEARCH

Provide instructional design and development expertise on collaborative Instructional Design team. 
Remain current in and effectively apply best practices for instructional design, uses of educational technology, and educational research. 
Investigate solutions, ideas, and help implement projects in instructional design and course material development. 
Share information on emerging learning technologies and practices. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, eLearning, or related field by the date of employment.
At least two years of teaching or training related experience.
Knowledge or experience with online course management systems (D2L, Moodle…) and synchronous. communication software such as Zoom, MS Teams.
Knowledge of instructional design, course design, learning theories, instructional technologies including course management systems with an aptitude for learning new technologies and trends.
Applied and research knowledge of course design and development, learning technologies, learning theories, and course management systems.
Ability to design courses with technology integration and supporting technologies.
Ability to use and implement system operations and management skills to plan, implement, and oversee projects.
Effective communication, interpersonal relations, and leadership skills.
A valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree or above in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, eLearning, or related field.
Experience with D2L in higher ed.
Rich knowledge or experience with learning media contents design, development, and integration.
Webpage programming experience.
Experience with interactive media and simulations development.
Teaching or training experience with adult learners in higher education.
